1956年，家父在長崎醫大攻博士學位;尚未上小學的我，ㄅㄆㄇㄈ都還沒學。
55年後，多年來住美國，英文仍然不及怹，爸爸是一部英文活字典，幾乎沒有怹不會的生字。17歲即留日的怹，英文難得的傑出。
爸爸的醫術、醫德，使子女的我們受餘蔭。基隆吳眼科是多麼令許許多多患者懷念。雨港基隆是我長大的故鄉。蘭醫生對爸爸的一生有重大的意義與影響。從小爸爸、媽媽常唸著怹。(爸爸幼時是蘭醫生幫他動手術，救了他一命!)
今歲，我剛離開洛城，心酸不捨半年前還打soft tennis的爸爸身形漸瘦，目前在做標靶治療，我從不曾照顧過怹老人家，在我心中爸爸是不會倒的強人。還是有勞姊姊妹妹，自己飛回台。
昨晨，得知外子親自已將郭院長頒給爸爸的捐獻蘭大衛博士紀念狀送達爸爸手上。我的淚水不止，最愛的爸爸!我不能沒有您，我也不要失去您，等我很快飛去看您，等我!我最愛最愛，最偉大的爸爸。

My dearest Doctor,
It is great pleasure to write this letter to you. I should have to write you sooner.
You might remember that twenty-two years ago you were so good as to give me an operation in that old Christian hospital in Changhua, where I was suddenly carried in because of an injury received by a vehicle accident while I was a primary school boy and was on a picnic. You saved my life. Since then I have never forgot your kindness extended to me and it will be the same while I live.
I know very well your beloved son. He is every inch of your portrait. He and his wife have been working at the hospital together. Last year together we attended the medical conference held in Taipei. I told him then that I was going to Nagasaki, Japan, very shortly.
I am thirty-five years old. I graduated from a medical college ten years ago and have been devoting myself to ophthalmology. I am married and is the father of four daughters. I love my wife and she knows how to lead our life happily.
For further study I left Formosa in December last year for Nagasaki. At the Nagasaki University school of medicine I am under the direction of Professor K. Hirose. The theme of my study is the optic nerve of Formosan monkey. I will stay here for one year and will go back to Formosa where my dearest wife and daughters are waiting for me.
Last February I was operated in that old Changhua hospital by Dr. Wilkerson, an American surgeon. Everybody was kind to me. At that old wooden building and on the same operating table, now something out of fashion, I recollected the first operation I got from you in my childhood when my whole body might have been full of fear. You worked with that old table for forty years and saved thousands of precious lives. The hospital stands as it was, just the same as you were in Formosa. We used to hear them sing hymns in the hall downstairs where the portrait of you and Mrs. Landsborough is hanging on the wall. I prayed there in front of the portrait.
The time is past. I guess you are now over eighty years old but are enjoying the best of health in your country. Could you find a chance to come over to Formosa once again? We very much hope so, as your great deeds and benevolence done in Formosa will never fade away from the bossom of the Formosans just as the case of Dr. Schweizer in Africa.
I beg to enclose herewith the picture of my family. The seed you saved long ago now bears such beautiful and savourous fruits. I will be more than pleased if you will send me yours as it will be hung on the wall of my room and I would like to think that you are always giving me a nice advice at all times.
Appologizing to you, Dr. Landsborough, for my writing you, so long and wish to hear from you soon, I beg to remain.
